J7 London Bombings Dossier

Index 08 - Moorgate to Liverpool Street Station

Official version of events

There is now no mention of an explosion having taken place between these two stations.

Query

Were the official statements on the 7th July that an explosion took place on a train entering Liverpool Street from Moorgate erroneous and the result of initial confusion?

Was there an explosion at the station, or on a train at the station?

Exhibits (M-LS1 - M-LS10)

These are exclusively from local and international media outlets. There are no eye witness accounts.

There are several accounts – Al Jazeera.Net (M-LS2) and The Guardian (M-LS4) of a press conference timed at 1531 at which DAC Brian Paddick, in the presence of Tim O’Toole, the head of London Underground, categorically places the first incident between Moorgate and Liverpool Street.

The City of London Police (M-LS9) the following day carried a “recap” on their official web site which lists an explosion on a train “travelling towards Liverpool Street.”

Related Information

Moorgate Station (M1-M10)

Summary

The situation is unclear. In the absence of eye witnesses there is no definitive evidence of this explosion. It is, however, curious that senior police officials should refer to it some time after the event by which stage any initial confusion is likely to have been cleared up!

The first blast caught a subway train between Moorgate and Liverpool Street stations, on the eastern fringe of London's financial district. Seven died, police said. Moorgate is named for one of the gates in the city walls of London, of which few traces remain.
