Official version of events

There was no explosion between Aldgate East and Liverpool Street but the track was damaged as a result of the bomb on the train on the adjacent Circle Line.

Query

Was there an explosion on a train travelling between these two stations (on the Hammersmith and City Line). Was this the blast referred to in the Aldgate East folder?

Survivors described scenes of total chaos. Mustafa Kurtuldu, 24, from Hackney, told Times Online at Aldgate East: "The train seemed to almost lift up off the rails. It sounded like an impact. It went white and there were flames outside the train, but they died down quickly."

Aldgate East: 'Smoke poured into the carriage, but we couldn't break the windows

At 8.50am, Manjit Dhanjal was sitting on a packed Circle Line train between Aldgate East and Liverpool Street station, on her way to work in the City.

The blast occurred in a carriage at the front of the train, around 50 metres from the Aldgate East platform.
