Index 14 - Devices Used
Official version of events
The bombs were carried in back packs and triggered manually by the four bombers.
Query
Were at least some of the explosions caused by devices hidden in the trains, or on the track?
Exhibits (D1 – D10)
D1. This photograph of one of the Edgware Road trains would seem to indicate that the centre of the explosion was on the floor of the carriage.
D2, D3, D4 & D6 all contain references to the floor/tiles/maintenance covers blowing up.
D7. Bruce Lait who was injured on the Liverpool Street-Aldgate train states “ The metal was pushed upwards as if the bomb was underneath the train”!
D9. Ian Wade, who was said to be on the Piccadilly line train (but see Kings Cross to Euston Square folder) states specifically “the explosion was on the ceiling of the carriage in front”!
D10. The photograph here shows considerable damage to the roof of a carriage!
Related Information
Various.
Summary
It would be interesting to hear the views of an explosives expert but prima facia there are strong indications that devices could have been left on, or underneath trains. Could this have been done by extremist employees infiltrated into the workforce?

As they made their way out, a policeman pointed out where the bomb had been.
"The policeman said 'mind that hole, that's where the bomb was'. The metal was pushed upwards as if the bomb was underneath the train. They seem to think the bomb was left in a bag, but I don't remember anybody being where the bomb was, or any bag," he said.
